Marrakesh: The Dazzling City

For a few years now, Marrakesh has been on everyone’s bucket list. Many bloggers and fashion designers have been traveling to the energetic city to discover the dazzling architecture or experience the Moroccan culture. Marrakesh is also becoming a fashion city. Indeed, you can visit the Yves Saint-Laurent museum and the Majorelle garden that are expressions of the designer’s past love for the city. Also, other brands have been travelling to the majestic city for inspirations or like Dior, to showcase their new collections. It is an understatement to say that there is definitely a hype around Marrakesh. Here is some information about this Moroccan city.

Founded in 1062, Marrakesh is the fourth largest city in Morocco. The city is also called ‘’Red city’’ or ‘’Ochre city’’ due to its red walls and ancient buildings in red sandstone. As mentioned, the bustling city has been attracting many visitors throughout the years. One of the main attraction of the city is the Medina. It is the largest Medina in North Africa and is a maze of streets. In these streets, there are many merchants, typical monuments, and doorways. Indeed, you can go through Rue de Bab Debbagh for leather tanneries or visit the famous Bahia Palace. At the center stage is the Jemaa el-Fnaa square where entertainers and different distractions are filling up space. The Medina is clearly a place filled with action and where anyone can fully experience the Moroccan culture.

Marrakesh is also known for its one-of-a-kind architecture. Many Riads can be found in the city and are definitely works of art. Riads were originally created for privacy. They are traditional Moroccan houses or palaces that have an interior courtyard or garden. Riads are very beautiful with their multi-color mosaic tiles, grand pillars, and bold colors. Also, they are perfect to admire the sunsets. Marrakesh also masters the art of ornate tile work. Many mosaics of different colors can be seen on monuments, such as the blue mosaic tile on the tower of the Koutoubia mosque. Each tile is unique, made, and placed by hand. It is that uniqueness that makes the architecture even more beautiful.

Overall, Marrakesh is a vibrant and colorful destination that anyone can enjoy. No wonder why the hype around Marrakesh is very much alive. Here’s a funny fact: our two founders are originally from Marrakesh. Their love for the city had to be shared with the rest of the world. It is indeed their love for Marrakesh and the Moroccan culture in general that originally motivated them to create Moroccan Birds.

For all of these reasons, it was important for Moroccan Birds to showcase their jewelry in the beautiful city of Marrakesh. If you are in the city or simply visiting it, you can try on Moroccan Birds boho-chic jewelry pieces at Chabi Chic stores & Macaal and get yourself (or your friends) the perfect handmade gift. Here are the addresses:
